Hike for Mike 2013

Preserving Beatrix Farrand's Gardens
Beatrix Farrand was renowned for applying her great horticultural expertise to the gardens and landscapes of East Coast society. This all-day program will be devoted to the restoration and maintenance of historic gardens designed by one of America’s foremost landscape architects.
This seminar is presented by the Beatrix Farrand Society and co-sponsored by the Garden Conservancy. Advance registration is required for this seminar and walk-ins will not be accommodated.

Open Days Program Garden Tour - Bar Harbor
Explore two private gardens in Bar Harbor, as well as the public gardens at Garland Farm, open to the public for self-guided tours to benefit the Garden Conservancy and the Beatrix Farrand Society. No reservations required; rain or shine. Begin at Garland Farm or see website for additional locations. Highlights include an Italianate garden, a vine-draped pergola framing mountain views, a restored rose garden, and a flower garden enclosed in a twelve-foot-high arborvitae hedge.

Winter Harbor Lobster Festival
Winter Harbor Lobster Festival. The 49th annual festival kicks off with a road race, excites with lobster boat races, presents a full day craft fair with kids’ activities, offers lobster dinners, and ends the day with a community parade. Free admission to the festival; fee for lobster dinners. Rain or shine, it’s a full day of family fun. Presented by the Schoodic Area Chamber of Commerce.

First Friday Art Walk
First Friday Art Walk at venues all over downtown. This dynamic downtown gala showcases a wide variety of fine art and craft, with special performance events including theater and music at locations throughout the town.
You'll find traditional and contemporary art, many by local, Maine and National artists, including wall art, sculpture, glass, pottery, jewelry and fiber arts. Many of the galleries host "meet the artist" events on these evenings. Join the fun and stroll downtown Bar Harbor to enjoy the works by an array of creative and talented people on First Friday. Look for maps at the Chamber of Commerce, most lodging establishments and at the galleries.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Half Marathon
This USATF certified half marathon takes place on beautiful Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. It is a major fundraiser for the MDI YMCA in Bar Harbor. The challenging loop course starts and finishes in front of the MDI Y. Nine miles of the course take place on Acadia's car-free carriage roads. This race fills very quickly.
